Mission
& Philosophy
TCIRD was established as a public charitable institution in 1983,
formerly as Thapar Corporate Research & Development
Centre. The Centre was re-christened with its present name in
February 1999.
The
Centre aims to foster, promote and sustain the cultivation of
science,
technology
and scientific research in all its aspects, pure, applied and
academic.
The Centre is managed by a Governing Body headed by the Chairman.
Present Chairman of the Governing Body is Mr.
Gautam Thapar, the Chairman of Thapar Group of Companies. Other members of the
Governing Body are drawn from prominent scientists,
educationists and industrialists, in addition to
representatives of Corporate Members. The Director, who is the
ex-officio Member Secretary of the Governing Body, is the
Chief Executive of the Centre.
Research
Advisory Committee helps the Centre By advising on matters
related to technical and policy matters regarding research
activities. The membership of Research Advisory Committee
consists of prominent scientists, engineers, and specialists
in various subject areas of interest to the Centre. Director
is the ex-officio Chairman of the Research Advisory Committee.
R&D activities of the Centre are organized
in Research & Competency
Division of Pulp & Paper. All
research and development projects are handled by a team of
scientists/engineers and technicians led by a senior research
scientists/engineer. A preliminary techno-commercial study is
done prior to start of a project, in consultation with the
customer, to establish technical and economic viability.
